!Xóõ is the last member of the family of Southern Bushman languages. It is spoken in a number of varieties in southwestern Botswana, in the Ghanzi and Kgalagadi Districts, and in the Aminuis Reserve in Namibia (Traill 1985).
This is the first comprehensive dictionary of a Southern Khoisan language. It is a bilingual dictionary with over 3,000 !Xóõ entries arranged according to a phonological rather than alphabetic principle. The !Xóõ entries are contextualised with idiomatic examples and are fully cross-referenced. The introduction provides the user with essential features of !Xóõ phonology, morphology and syntax.

Angesichts des teils rapiden Sprach- und Kulturwandels, der inzwischen fast alle Khoisansprachigen Gesellschaften erfaßt hat, wird heutzutage jeder Versuch einer Aufarbeitung bestehender Dokumentationslücken zum Wettlauf mit der Zeit. Um so bemerkenswerter ist das Erscheinen des hier vorzustellenden zweisprachigen Wörterbuches [...].
Anthony Traill hat damit nicht nur das erste Lexikon dieser Sprache des „Süd-Khoisan“ überhaupt vorgelegt, sondern zugleich auch eine der großen Lücken schließen können, die die sprachvergleichende Forschung (selbst jenseits der Grenzen der Khoisanistik) bislang beklagt hat.
