Sample Guidelines for the Submission of Manuscripts
- General Guidelines
- Style Sheet for 1:1 Manuscript Reproduction
- Style Sheet for Manuscripts to be Reduced
- Sample Camera-Ready Text
- List of available electronic Stylesheets
Some of the books and electronic media of our production are not layouted by ourselves. In this case, part of the service we provide for our authors includes advice and individualized guidelines for the preparation of a camera-ready copy of the manuscript. Each book receives an individualized style sheet which helps the author to ensure that the text conforms to the requirements of the series in which the book will be published. The following are a list of general guidelines, a sample style sheet for the 1:1 reproduction of a manuscript to appear in the series Gur Monographs / Monographies Voltaïques, and remarks for authors who prefer their manuscript to be reduced, rather than have it printed in its original size. These are followed by a sample camera ready text from the series CAK · Culture Area Karakorum, Scientific Studies, and a list of available electronic stylesheets (.pdf files).
We do not take any responsibility for manuscripts which are sent to us without prior consent or agreement.
A. GENERAL GUIDELINES
These guidelines cannot be applied to each and every book. If your book deviates from the guidelines which follow, please contact us or the series editor(s) (see our publication series pages to find the appropriate series editor). We do our best to accommodate each author’s wishes. The most
important rule of thumb is that a book be consistent.
Please submit both a printed copy of your manuscript and a diskette copy in a converted DOS/Windows format.
Number pages so that even-numbered pages fall on the left-hand side of the manuscript, while odd numbers fall on pages on the right-hand side.
We set the first four pages of the manuscript (pre-title, series title, main title and CIP-page). Page 5, then, is the first page of the manuscript you submit. Please number
your manuscript accordingly.
Please submit a 200-word abstract of the manuscript, in German and in English (if possible), which we can use as a basis for designing advertising material.

C. STYLE SHEET 1: < x (A MANUSCRIPT TO BE REDUCED)
We do not recommend that you choose to submit a manuscript to be reduced. This adds an unnecessary extra step to the printing process. For those authors who insist on
submitting a manuscript to be reduced, please keep in mind that the more you enlarge the type area, the more you have to enlarge the font size, spacing, etc.
EXAMPLE:
If your book will be reduced before printing by 20% you will have to use a font size and line-spacing that is increased by 25%, e.g. instead of font size = 10 pt. use 12,5pt., instead of
line-spacing = 0.5 cm use 0.63 cm etc.
