Songhay
Songhay is spoken by appr. 700.000 people along the middle and upper regions of the Niger river. The important languages are: Koyra Chiini (between Timbuktu and Niafunké), Koroboro Senni
(around the district capital of Gao) and Dendi (along the borders of Benin, Niger, Nigeria and Ghana). Songhay is a branch of the Nilo Saharan language family and contains neither gender nor nominal classes.
