Khoisan Languages
The Khoisan languages are the smallest of the four main language families of Africa, the others being the Afro-Asiatic, the Niger-Kordofanian and the Nilo-Saharan families. Speakers of
Khoisan are found mainly in southern Africa, especially Namibia, Botswana and South Africa. There are two small ethnic groups of hunter-gatherers in north Tanzania (Hadza and Sandawe) whose languages are also regarded as belonging to Khoisan. The total number of speakers is estimated to be 150.000.
We have several scientific publication series as well as a number of text collections, analyses, and collected papers that deal with Khoisan languages and Khoisan speakers in view of
linguistics, literature, cultural anthropology and history.
